A few stunning summer days have had me wandering down to Ironbridge to take in the views from slightly different angles. I’ve created a new range of cards in a square format that will be available in a few choice Ironbridge outlets very soon.
What an amazing way this month has started… my good friend and fab artist Amanda Hiller has been featured in Period Living magazine. Amanda’s work is so lovely and when I first heard about the news of this article, I didn’t realise the scale of it… Amazing!! Getting my copy tomorrow!!
But the other exciting thing about this article is that some of my photos are featured in it as well 😀 So happy! Its a great way of showing off our continuous cooperation.
Here are a few photos I took of Amanda, her work and her studio.
Enjoy
Last weekend I had a walk around Shrewsbury taking in the wonderful architecture of the town. Of course I couldn’t resist visiting my old family shop on the Mardol. Both halves of the building were once run as a Bakery and Grocery by my great great grandparents, aunts and uncles, although the family ceased to trade in the twenties. My part of the family moved to Leicestershire where I was born. I will be using the old shop and other Shrewsbury scenes in some new lino print work which will feature in an Exhibition at The Art Vaults, Fish Street, Shrewsbury from 4th April 2015 www.theartvaults.com
Had a wonderful morning with my lovely friend Molly from mollysmakery. Molly is a talented photographer and helped me create some beautiful images for promoting my lino printing workshops and limited edition prints.
A stunning Summer’s day today in Coalbrookdale. At last some colour in the garden and the ideas are flowing for more printing imagery. Down at my studio at Fusion, Jackfield I ran a really enjoyable lino printing day with a group of enthusiastic students. As ever the work produced was wide ranging from still life to landscapes. I picked out these images from Anna and Ebony which seem to fit perfectly with wildflower photos taken on an evening walk over Rough Park earlier this week.
This month’s lino printing workshop was a great success. Some very talented students produced a really interesting selection of work. Without any printing knowledge and very little belief in their drawing skills, my lovely workshop people really pushed the boundaries and produced some exceptional work in just a day. Treat yourself to a day out, book now for my 29th March Workshop and see what’s possible!
A rare glimmer of sunshine today has really cheered me up. A visit to http://blue-shifnal.co.uk made me realise that a few spring blooms can do you the world of good. I’ve decided that my next collection of prints will be dedicated to flowers and wildlife, can’t wait to show them off at http://eightysixd.co.uk some time in May. There, I’ve said it now, let printmaking commence!
My inspiration is all lined up for a new print. I’m finally getting round to tackling a view of the Wrekin and have gathered some images that will help me bring the image together. I love the work of Angie Lewin http://www.angielewin.co.uk her seed heads and wild flowers are a big influence when I work into the foreground of my landscape pieces. Looking through some other print reference I came across the work of Jane Walker http://www.janewalkerprintmaker.com her simplified shapes and abstract styling will help to remind me not to take the view too literally and bring in some stylised elements.
Last Saturday was a great day down at the Green Wood Centre in Coalbrookdale. Another successful Apple Day, with food, crafts and lots of cider! It really didn’t seem like work running my ‘Art Stall’ in the barn along with other arty crafty folks. My Apple Day print and notepads went down a treat, I’m already looking forward to next year.
